Lead Paralegals Daniel Sesay and John Macarthy recently discussed Timap’s legal services work at an international conference examining customary law held from October 23-24 in Gaborone, Botswana.
The conference, organized by Fordham Law School’s Leitner Center for International Law and Justice and the University of Botswana, was titled African Customary Law Revisited: The Role of Customary Law in the 21st Century and sought to address the lack of scholarly attention to an area of law that figures prominently in many Africans’ lives.
The conference attracted scholars and practitioners from across Africa, as well as Europe and the United States. Sesay and Macarthy complemented the academic- and research-oriented panelists with presentations on how Timap paralegals and their clients engage customary courts and chiefs in rural Sierra Leone.
